Flight testing has begun on the most powerful and greenest business jet engine to have been built so far by Rolls-Royce.
The Pearl 10X engine has been developed exclusively for the new Dassault Falcon 10X, which is due to go into service in 2027. It is the first time that Rolls has built engines for the French aerospace group’s business jets, which in the past have used Pratt & Whitney, GE and Honeywell.
Business jet engines account for about 10 per cent of Rolls’ revenues, or about £1.5 billion annually. The FTSE 100 group is better known for producing engines for long-haul aircraft such as the Airbus A350 and the Boeing 787, as well as fighter jets.
