Ruth Jones reveals one of her favourite Gavin & Stacey filming ...
The Gavin & Stacey finale is almost upon us and the cast are reminiscing about their favourite memories from filming the iconic BBC show over the last 17 years. Series co-creator Ruth Jones is back playing Nessa in the Christmas special and fans are eagerly waiting to hear Smithy's answer to her proposal, which is where the series left off five years ago.
Ahead of the finale airing, Ruth has shared one of her favourite moments filming Gavin & Stacey, and surprisingly, it is not part of any episode. Speaking to The One Show's Alex Jones on Barry Island Discs, Ruth revealed that one of her most treasured memories is when she took part in Comic Relief with Rob Brydon, who plays Uncle Bryn.
In 2009, Ruth and Rob took part in a special recording of their duet Islands in the Stream for Comic Relief, where they were joined by Welsh legend Tom Jones, who we find out is one of Nessa's many past lovers. In the sketch, Bryn and Nessa head to Vegas to fulfil their dreams of performing at the Karaoke World Championships.
Reminiscing about this special piece of the show's history, Ruth said it was "one of the great things to come out of Gavin & Stacey". She continued: "We got to go to Vegas to film it. We got to work with Tom Jones, who was an absolute joy. I was essentially there with my friend Rob from school and we were making a pop video.
"I'll never forget being in that room where the moment came when Tom Jones had to walk through and part the crowds as he entered. Rob and I just looked at each other and filled up, because we were like 'We went to Porthcawl Comp and look at us now! We're standing here, singing with Tom Jones!' I think also the reason I love it is because we hear Rob as Uncle Bryn singing these American lyrics with a really strong Welsh accent.
"It will always remind me of one of the happiest times in my life." For the latest TV & Showbiz news, sign up to our newsletter
