Live as Ryan Lowe resigns from Plymouth Argyle and new boss appointed

Ryan Lowe has left Plymouth Argyle to become the new manager of Championship club Preston North End.

In a day of fast moving events, the Pilgrims have responded by appointing Lowe's No 2 Steven Schumacher as their new boss.

His first game in charge will be the Sky-televised League One game away to MK Dons tomorrow night.

Schumacher, 37, takes over with Argyle fourth in League One, with 36 points from 20 games, and also in the third round of the FA Cup.

There are reports that Preston have paid £250,000 compensation to Argyle so they could appoint Lowe, who had a contract with the Pilgrims until the end of the 2023/24 season.

Lowe makes the step up into the Championship with Preston, who are in 18th position in the table after picking up only four points from their last five games.
