The live audience booed the presenters following the update

Ant and Dec fans were fuming after an announcement at the end of tonight's show.

The popular presenters returned to host another edition of the happiest 90 minutes of the week.

The episode finished with a mid season party as Ant & Dec were joined by Geordie musican, Sam Fender.

Sam played hits such as Local Hero and Seventeen Going Under before the hosts joined him on stage to bring an end to another jam-packed edition.

However, the live audience booed when Dec confirmed there will be a longer wait than usual for the next show.

He said: "Remember we're not here next week because of the rugby, but we'll be back in two weeks' time."

Next week's episode of the popular ITV programme has been replaced by coverage of a Six Nations double-header.

The channel will broadcast Ireland vs Scotland before England take on France in the rugby union competition on March 19.

Viewers following the show on Twitter were fuming after the schedule shake-up.

Anthony said: "Great show tonight, just a shame it’s not on next week because of rugby (would rather watch Saturday Night Takeaway)"

Natasha added: "I’m going to miss the show so much next week! What are we supposed to watch?"

Charlie commented : "Who would want to watch rugby rather than watch the cheeky duo that is Ant and Dec who brighten up anyone when they feel down is bizarre to be. Confusing really?"

Alix posted: "Seriously what will I do next Saturday night??? This sucks!!!!!"

Craig tweeted: "No #SaturdayNightTakeaway next week because of the boring rugby"

Ant & Dec's Saturday Night Takeaway will return for the 5th episode of the new season on March 26.
