Thousands of Plymouth children will find out today which primary school they will be going to in September.

The school admissions team have been working hard to make sure that the primary admissions process was completed on time so Plymouth families can get ready for their children to start school.

Emails confirming school places for September 2024 were sent today and parents have one week to respond to the offer of the school place.

For those that applied for their place online, the easiest way to respond is through their online account. If parents do not make a response, the allocated place could be withdrawn and offered to someone else.

The latest figures show that 98.78 per cent of city children (2,357) were allocated one of their three preferences this year. Just 1.22 per cent of children (29) did not receive any of the schools they listed as a preference and so were allocated a place at the nearest school with a vacancy.

A total of 2,386 applications were submitted for primary school places this year. That compares with 2,574 last year, when the Council was able to match 91.96 per cent of families with their first preference of primary school.

Parents are also being reminded that for any school they ranked higher than the one allocated, their child will automatically be placed on a waiting list for that school and will be considered if a vacancy comes up between now and the start of the school year. If you do not wish to remain on a school waiting list, you must tell the school admissions team in writing.

You can contact the school admissions team on 01752 307469 or via email at primary.admissions@plymouth.gov.uk.
