Washington, D.C. — U.S. Senator Jon Ossoff is working to help Georgia farmers export more crops to world markets.

Sen. Ossoff is working to bring Republicans and Democrats together to pass the bipartisan Specialty CROP Act of 2023, legislation he co-sponsored to support Georgia’s farmers and level the playing field to boost exports.

The bipartisan bill would promote fair access to foreign markets and diversification of Georgia’s crop markets by gathering information that would identify barriers for farmers to compete in international markets and help them expand export opportunities.

Georgia is a leading state in pecan, cantaloupe, watermelon, bell pepper, peach, cucumber, and blueberry production and grows many other important specialty crops.

“I am working every day to support Georgia’s agricultural community. This new bipartisan bill will help our state’s heroic farmers and growers sell more Georgia-grown crops to the world,” Sen. Ossoff said.

Sen. Ossoff continues to be a leading voice in supporting Georgia growers to increase their exports.

In October, Sens. Ossoff and Reverend Raphael Warnock urged the Biden Administration to support Georgia’s agricultural industry after this year’s natural disasters.

In September, Sen. Ossoff launched a push to bring Republicans and Democrats together to pass a new bipartisan bill aimed at expanding support for the poultry industry during avian influenza outbreaks.

In August, Sens. Ossoff and Marco Rubio (R-FL) led a bipartisan, bicameral group of lawmakers urging U.S. Trade Representative Katherine Tai to follow through on a promise by the Biden Administration to help Southeastern seasonal producers affected by unfair trade practices.

In February, following Sen. Ossoff’s push, the Republic of India announced a major 70% cut to tariffs on U.S. pecan exports, a big win for Georgia farmers.
