The Simpsons is leaving Channel 4 after 20 years.

But the animated comedy is not going far, moving to the broadcaster’s youth-oriented E4 from next month.

They will then be available on Channel 4’s streaming platform for a limited time, alongside this, a selection of library episodes.

The new deal with Disney Entertainment will start with season 32, which first aired on Fox in the US in 2020/2021.

New episodes will continue to air first on the Disney+ channel, where season 36 begins in the spring, before coming to terrestrial TV later. 

Disney+ remains the exclusive streaming home of all episodes of the show, from seasons 1to 35.

Polly Scates, head of acquisitions at Channel 4, said: ‘The Simpsons and Channel 4 have a historic relationship, and I’m delighted that we will continue to bring this much loved and iconic series to our audience.’

Disney executive Dayna Donaldson added: ‘The Simpsons stands the test of time, and they continue to be one of the most beloved and well-known families in the world. 

‘We are delighted that Channel 4, along with Disney +, will be bringing these larger-than-life characters and the comedy of Springfield to UK audiences, introducing the series to the next generation and new audiences for years to come.’
