Video: Tottenham's Heung-min Son scores for South Korea at the Asian Cup

Son Heung-min got on the scoresheet for South Korea on Saturday but it proved to be a disappointing outing for his side, who were held to a 2-2 draw by Jordan.

After overcoming Baharain 3-1 in their opening game, the South Koreans knew they would seal passage to the knockout stages of the Asian Cup with a win over the Jordanians.

Son set them on their way to three points as he stepped up to convert from the penalty spot on nine minutes to put his side 1-0 up but Jordan managed to turn around the scoreline thanks to an own goal from Park Yong-Woo and a long-range strike from Yazan Al-Naimat.

The West Asian nation held the lead for almost the entirety of the second half but Korea’s blushes were sparred in stoppage time as Hwang In-beom’s shot was diverted into the net by Yazan Al-Arab, with the points thus shared between the sides in Al Thumama Stadium in Doha.

Jurgen Klinnsman’s men still find themselves in a strong position to qualify for the knockout stages as they sit second in Group E heading into the clash against Malaysia on Thursday.

Apart from the top two teams in each group, the four best places third-placed teams also qualify for the knockout stages, which is why South Korea are in a strong position to do so.

However, Son and co will want to beat Malaysia handsomely and win Group E so that they get a favourable draw in the next round.
