New Payday 3 Details & Docuseries Unveiled For Franchise 10th Anniversary

New Payday 3 Details Docuseries Unveiled For Franchise 10th Anniversary
New Payday 3 details have been revealed.

In celebration of Payday's 10th anniversary and its community surpassing more than 7M+ players, Overkill Software has revealed new details regarding Payday 3, along with an announcement of a new docuseries to unfold the legacy of the franchise. The third installment of the Payday franchise is set to release in 2023 and will continue the extreme expeditions of Dallas, Hoxton, Wolf, and Chains in another heist spree adventure set in a much bigger Hollywood-like environment on next-gen platforms.

Payday first made its mark when its original title was released almost a decade ago and gave players a co-op experience that was distinctive from other shooters. Introducing bank heists as the franchise's main loop, the title offered variety and replayability with multiple playthroughs on maps that had fluctuation patterns. This was later expanded with its sequel, which grew its ongoing community and longevity with substantial features, world-building, and a huge roster of diverse missions that kept players coming back for more. In addition, Payday 2 has received bizarre DLC content and constant free updates. The title has also collaborated with multiple film IPs such as Scarface, John Wick, and Reservoir Dogs, while continuing to receive support almost nine years after its initial release.

During the franchise's 10th-anniversary live stream, Overkill Software revealed new details regarding its highly-anticipated Payday 3. As explained by Game Director Erik Wonnevi, the game is set years after Payday 2 and will take players to the big-scale urban environment of New York City. Being forced to come out of retirement, the gang will return to a world where the digital age has taken over. The title will introduce software giants, cryptocurrencies, mass surveillance, and the dark web, all of which will play a particular role in the crew's new gadgets, as well as the challenges they will need to overcome due to increased media attention as their fame continues to grow. Additionally, the developers have introduced a new docuseries in celebration of the franchise's birthday and have announced that the upcoming mobile title Payday: Crime War will be receiving a closed beta coming to Android devices in December.

Originally announced in 2016, Payday 3 received major setbacks and its development was halted for a short period of time due to publisher Starbreeze studios being investigated and raided for insider trading. Production for Payday 3, however, picked up again in 2020, and Starbreeze later revealed that it had teamed up with the Embracer Group to publish the game under Koch Media's new label, Prime Matter.

The Payday franchise is celebrating its 10th anniversary as its community continues to grow and a new installment is set to release in 2023. Exhilarated players can jump back into Payday 2, as the title is set to sustain players with continued updates until the launch of Overkill's new installment.
