The coffee chain is giving away tall drinks for free including the festive specials

Starbucks is offering free drinks to workers up and down the country – but you’ll need to claim your beverage today.

As a thank you for all the hard work they do all year, NHS staff can receive any tall drink for free at most UK branches. The giveaway is part of the partnership the coffee chain has with NHS Charities Together and now in its fifth year.

For the first time, Starbucks is also sending festive treats to 10 ambulance stations, and NHS staff visiting participating We Proudly Serve Starbucks® stands in hospitals can receive a free milk chocolate gold coin when they buy any hot drink, while stocks last.

Starbucks began donating money and items to the charity – which supports NHS staff and helps improve care by funding services and equipment not covered by government funds – during the pandemic.

Since then, Starbucks has donated over 500,000 food and drinks items to NHS staff, and given more than £3.9m to the fund, according to its website.

As well as running nationwide campaigns, Starbucks gives its individual stores the chance to partner with their local NHS charity and make a difference in their own communities.

How to claim your free Starbucks

At any point on Thursday, December 5, NHS staff can claim their free drink by showing a valid NHS staff ID at the till. Blue Light discount cards will not be accepted (but don’t forget – Blue Light Card holders do get 10 per cent off at Starbucks all year round).

The giveaway covers any tall drink (which is essentially a medium), including the often pricey festive specials, such as the Fudge Brownie Hot Chocolate or Toffee Nut Latte.

Not all stores will be taking part in the promotion, so it might be worth calling ahead to check beforehand.

Ellie Orton, chief executive of NHS Charities Together said: “Winter is always a demanding season for the NHS, with 72 per cent of the public rating working within the NHS as the most difficult job to do over the festive period in a recent survey, so this initiative couldn’t come at a better time.

“We hope Starbucks Free Coffee Giveaway will remind our NHS staff across the UK that their dedication is appreciated and they will be able to take a break from their life-saving duties and enjoy the festive season.”
