Rangers star set to decline Aston Villa transfer as Steven Gerrard snubbed
Aston Villa boss Steven Gerrard is reportedly set to be snubbed by Rangers full-back Borna Barisic.
Barisic, report BirminghamLive's colleagues at the Daily Star, has decided that his future lies at Ibrox.
The 29 year-old is said to be happy at Rangers and does not want to move clubs when the January transfer window opens in the New Year.
He had previously been mentioned among the players who could follow Gerrard to Villa with the former Rangers oss himself swapping Glasgow for the Midlands last month when he replaced the acked Dean Smith.
Ryan Kent, Connor Goldson, Glen Kamara and Barisic have all been tipped to make the move to Villa and reunite with Gerrard, who steered them to an unbeaten Scottish Premiership title last season.
Barisic was quizzed about his future in an interview in his homeland of Croatia back in May and addressed talk of a potential move to the Premier League or beyond.
"Of course, far be it for me to say no," he responded to a question about playing in one of Europe's 'big five' Leagues.
"But I can't comment on anything, I have a contract for another two-and-a-half years, we will see what the future will bring."
"That club is unique. When it creeps into your heart it stays there forever. I can just say I love Rangers. Honestly.
"Offers are normal in football but when I talk about the club and the fans, it is a big wonderful family. They totally won me over."
Gerrard's Villa have won three of his four matches in charge and are in tenth place with only two wins separating them from fifth place.
January could be crucial for Villa if they can keep their momentum going with European football by no means out of reach this season.
