A new series starring Doctor Who’s Tosin Cole is here. But, even though it fits into the sci-fi genre, its creator says: “There ain't no spandex and no masks!”

So, what exactly can we expect from it?

British rapper, record producer, screenwriter and film director, Rapman (aka Andrew Onwubolu) created, executive produced and lead directed Supacell. He began making films on his YouTube channel, and made his writing and directorial debut with the film Blue Story (2019), an adaptation of his YouTube series.

Joining the Chris Evans Breakfast Show with webuyanycar, Rapman explained: “It is about five Londoners, from South East London, to be exact, that unexpectedly come into superpowers. And it's not like what you think it is. There ain't no spandex and no masks!"

He added: "Our lead character, played by Tosin, he actually gets the power of time-travel, finds out the woman he just proposed to, and is over the moon is, going to die three months after he has now proposed. So he has to go back to the present and find a way to stop it. And he goes everywhere and does everything he can, and he's a fish out of water, and he does whatever he can to save the woman that he loves.”

Tosin Cole from Doctor Who and Hollyoaks leads the cast as Michael Lasaki. The actor told Chris Evans: “Michael’s a normal, day-to-day guy, a delivery driver. He’s been in a long-term relationship with Dionne [Adelayo Adedayo], and he’s just going about his day. Then, literally, the powers happen, and his world’s turned upside down, and he's trying to make it happen, you know, by hook or by crook.”

The cast also features Adelayo Adedayo as Dionne, Yasmin Monet Prince as Veronica, Eddie Marsan as Ray, Nadine Mills as Sabrina, Eric Kofi-Abrefa as Andre, Calvin Demba as Rodney, Josh Tedeku as Josh and Rayxia Ojo as Sharleen.

Also in the cast are Giacomo Mancini as Spud, Michael Salami as Gabriel, Travis Jay as John, Debra Baker as Matron Tracey, Seosaimhin Hennelly as Rachel, Haqi Ali as Bossman and Rendah Beshoori as Dr. Donna Kemble.

Supacell is available to stream on Netflix.

The series launched on Thursday 27th June.
