Supermassive Games is set to lay off 90 people, accounting for up to 30% of the studio’s current staff count.

In a new report from Bloomberg, the studio behind games like The Quarry and Until Dawn told 150 employees — roughly 50% of the employee base — that they were “at risk” of being let go. The notice came Monday morning as members of the company were beginning their work week.

In a statement posted on social media, the studio confirmed it’s decision to make cuts.

“After much deliberation and with deep regret, we are therefore undertaking a reorganisation ofSupermassive Games,” they said. “As a result, we are entering into a period of consultation, which we anticipate will result in the loss of some of our colleagues.

“This is not a decision that’s been taken lightly, with many efforts made to avoid this outcome. We are all too aware of how unsettling and difficult this process is going to be for all ouremployees and will be working closely with all those involved to ensure the process is conducted as respectfully and compassionately as possible.”

Currently, Supermassive Games is working on a collaboration effort with Behaviour Interactive on a new game set in the Dead by Daylight universe called The Casting of Frank Stone.

Supermassive Games is the latest studio to lay off employees this year. After a 2023 that saw over 10,000 people in the industry lose their jobs, 2024 has seen over 6,000 people be let go in just the first two months.
