Channel 5 is set to grip viewers with its new thriller, The Castaways, which delves into the harrowing tale of two sisters torn apart when a plane vanishes. Lori and Erin were poised for an unforgettable journey to Fiji, but a fierce argument leads Erin to back out at the last minute, unaware that Lori boards the ill-fated flight.

The mystery deepens over the ensuing months as the aircraft and its passengers remain missing. The plot thickens when Lori's credit card surfaces on a distant Pacific island, prompting Erin to head to Fiji in search of clues.

Compelling CCTV footage of the pilot captured on the day of the disappearance only adds to the enigma.

Shot across the stunning landscapes of Fiji and Greece, the series initially premiered on Paramount+ in 2023. The Guardian has praised The Castaways as "A darkly plotted and sunnily staged piece of escapism".

Who is in the cast of The Castaways?

Lori - Sheridan Smith

Taking on the role of Lori, Sheridan Smith portrays the sister who finds herself stranded on a remote island. At 43 years old, this Lincolnshire-born actress and singer is renowned for her performances in The Royle Family, Two Pints of Lager and a Packet of Crisps, Gavin & Stacey, and Benidorm.

Smith's personal life has seen its share of the spotlight, following a past relationship with James Corden that concluded in 2009. She later connected with Jamie Horn, an insurance broker, with whom she shared a relationship from 2018 to 2021, and together they have a son.

Erin Holme - Celine Buckens

Celine Buckens, a 28 year old Belgian-British actress, portrays the character Erin who embarks on a quest to find her sister. She is recognised for her performances in War Horse, Free Rein and Warrior.

Additionally, she once graced the Bal des debutantes in Paris as a debutante.

Mike Brass - Brendan Cowell

Brendan Cowell, a 48 year old Australian actor and writer, takes on the role of Mike Brass, the plane's captain. He gained fame for his lead role in the 2024 series Plum, which he also created and based on his 2021 novel of the same name.

Alice Barclay is a TV and film actress recognised for her roles in A Spy Among Friends and A Good Girl's Guide to Murder.

Steven Wills - Dugald Bruce-Lockhart

Dugald Bruce-Lockhart, a 56 year old Scottish actor and director, was born in Fiji, where The Castaways was filmed.

He is the son of intelligence officer and diplomat, James Robert Bruce Lockhart. He also has several family members who have played rugby union for Scotland.

The star began his career on stage before landing roles in Midsomer Murders, Brookside and Hotel Babylon.

The Castaways will be airing on Channel 5 on Sunday at 9pm.
