Justin Thomas holds the lead at Royal Troon on the opening day of The 152nd Open.

The two-time major champion reached four-under through 10 holes on Thursday, before stumbling on Troon's challenging back nine with a double-bogey on the 12th and a bogey on the 13th.

However, Thomas then responded superbly, with birdies on the final two holes completing a 68 that earned him a one-shot lead.

Alex Noren, Nicolai Hojgaard and Justin Rose all carded 69s, with Russell Henley and Maverick McNealy still out on the course at two-under.

Adam Scott signed for a one-under 70, having produced one of the highlights of the morning at the 1st when he holed out in sensational fashion from a greenside bunker, but scoring was generally proving tricky in challenging conditions that saw a stiff breeze and frequent showers sweeping in.
