I tried to find a Valentines outfit from the high street and it was hard
"I actually found it really tough to snap up a Valentine's Day outfit."

I decided to hunt for a Valentine's Day outfit from popular shops like River Island, M&S, H&M and New Look. Even though I didn't have big plans this year, I wanted to see if I could find a nice outfit without breaking the bank.

I headed to Liverpool city centre, expecting to find lots of fancy dresses. But it was harder than I thought to find a Valentine's Day outfit. I've always liked Marks and Spencer's dresses because they're comfy and can be worn for different occasions.

River Island can be hit or miss, and this time, I struggled to find anything dressy that wasn't knitted. First, I went to M&S. As soon as I walked in, I saw a lovely all-pink outfit that I had to try on. The Ruched Sleeve blazer was comfy and cost £49.50. It's described as 'popular' on the M&S website.

The whole pink look was very 'Barbie', but I thought it was fitting for Valentine's Day. There was also a Cloud-yarn Ribbed Funnel Neck Jumper for £25 in a beautiful 'bright rose' shade.

I tucked the jumper into some pink trousers that matched the blazer perfectly. Since I'm 5'3, I tried the Crepe Pleat Front Straight Leg Trousers in a short/petite size and they were just right.

I tried on a size 10 and it was quite roomy, which is rare for high street shops. The outfit was bright and great for a special event, but might not be to everyone's taste.

Then, I visited River Island, but only found very shiny dresses or ones that were too warm. I was looking for classic Valentine's colours like red and pink, but there weren't many in the shop.

H&M was similar, but I did find a knitted dress that wasn't too heavy and looked good on. I don't usually like tight dresses, but this grey one seemed nice for a date night.

It's on sale for £24.99, but not online. The dress looks good on the hips and is worth a look in the shop.

Next was New Look! It was hard to find a typical Valentine's Day dress there too. I found an AX Paris One Shoulder Ruched Bodycon Midi Dress that's a bit fancy but great for something more special.

The New Look website says: "AX Paris. Make a statement in this red midi dress, featuring a flattering one shoulder neckline and ruched detailing. Complement its hue with a medley of gold jewellery and a nude lip."

You can learn more about the dress here.

Meanwhile, Matalan is offering a stunning Be Beau Red Frill Satin Mini Dress for just £14 - the perfect outfit for Valentine's Day.
