BBC The Split fans are eagerly awaiting its return with a new setting in Barcelona.

Two years ago, viewers saw Hannah Stern (played by Nicola Walker) and Nathan (Stephen Mangan) decide to part ways on a hopeful yet teary note.

The latest instalment sees the family heading to Barcelona for their daughter Liv's (Elizabeth Roberts) picturesque vineyard wedding but what twists and turns await them?

Hannah Stern - Nicola Walker

Nicola Walker reprises her role as high-flying divorce lawyer Hannah Stern.

In the previous season, she confessed her love for Christie Carmichael (Barry Atsma), but couldn't leave her family to join him in New York, leaving both devastated.

Walker is no stranger to leading roles, having played DCI Cassie Stuart in Unforgotten and the eponymous character in last year's adaptation of Annika. Her other credits include Last Tango in Halifax, Spooks, River, Four Weddings, and a Funeral.

Nathan - Stephan Mangan

Stephen Mangan returns as Nathan, who amicably decided to separate from Hannah and share custody of their children in the third season. He has since moved on with his new partner, Katie.

Mangan is best known for his roles as Guy Secretan in Green Wing, Dan Moody in I'm Alan Partridge, and Sean Lincoln in Episodes.

Nina Defoe - Annabel Scholey

Season three concluded positively for Hannah's sister Nina, who now has her young daughter Cora and consequently, has ceased stealing and finally managed to control her drinking.

Actress Annabel Scholey, known for her roles in The Couple Next Door, The Serial Killer's Wife, Dead and Buried, and Rivals on Disney+ as Beattie Johnson, portrays Nina.

Rose Defoe - Fiona Button

Hannah's other sister, Rose, and her husband, James (Rudi Dharmalingam), decided at the end of season three that they would explore adoption after failing to conceive naturally.

Actress Fiona Button, known for her roles in Lip Service, You, Me and the Apocalypse, Other Strangers, and Grantchester as Jennifer Chambers, plays Rose.

Ruth - Deborah Findlay

Hannah's mother, Ruth, eventually marries Ronnie (Ian McElhinney) and starts a podcast about marriage and divorce titled LoveCast.

Fans may recognise actress Deborah Findlay from shows such as Vanity Fair, Torchwood, Cranford, Collateral, and The Lady in the Van.

Liv - Elizabeth Roberts

Liv, the daughter of Hannah and Nathan, is the reason the entire family has travelled to Barcelona as she is about to get married.

Actress Elizabeth Roberts, still relatively new to the entertainment industry, has a few minor roles to her credit, including parts in Casualty, Call the Midwife, Father Brown, and The Serial Killer's Wife.

Ronnie - Ian McElhinney

Ronnie, Ruth's partner, is portrayed by actor Ian McElhinney, who played Barristan Selmy in HBO's Game of Thrones.

He has notably featured in The Outlaws, Unforgotten, Derry Girls, Bloodlands, and High Country among others.

Gael - Alex Guersman

Newcomer Alex Guersman takes on the role of Liv's fiance, Gael but prior to starring in this two-part special, he had mostly been starring in various shorts.

Also joining the cast is Toby Stephens, known for Black Sails, who will be playing Archie Moore.

We can also expect to see fresh faces with Manu Fullola and Romina Cocca portraying the "glamourous hosts" Alvaro and Valentina, respectively.

The Split: Barcelona airs on Sunday, December 29, and Monday, December 30, at 9pm on BBC One and BBC iPlayer.
