The Tourist: Full cast list for the BBC drama and what it's about

A new drama The Tourist is coming to the BBC for the New Year and follows a man who has no recollection or idea about who he is.

The drama will star Northern Irish actor Jamie Dornan in the lead role as 'The Man' as people in the Australian Outback try to figure out who he is.

Other characters will also have their own storylines developed throughout the series as big existential questions sit alongside surprising, fast-paced storytelling.

There will be dramatic plot twists but the BBC has described the drama as "ultimately the kind of very real and very human story that everyone can relate to".

The Tourist will begin at on New Years Day and there are six hour-long episodes in the series.

The drama starts with 'The Man' being driven off the road in the Australian Outback and waking up from the accident in hospital with no idea who he is.

He is helped by local police officer Helen Chambers, played by Danielle Macdonald, as they try to figure who 'The Man' is and they meet other characters along the way.

Jamie Doran as The Man

Playing the mysterious character who wakes up with total memory loss and no idea who he is, is popular Northern Irish actor Jamie Doran.

Jamie has an impressive acting career starring in the TV series Once Upon A Time, playing the lead role of Christian Grey in the 50 Shades of Grey films, and starring in the TV series The Fall.

Talking about his role in The Tourist he said: "These scripts stood out for me. They were different to anything I’d read before, they were very complex, imaginative, bold and hugely ambitious."

Danielle Macdonald as Helen Chambers

Taking the role of Helen Chambers, a local police officer who is helping 'The Man' rediscover his identity, is Danielle Macdonald who is an Australian actress.

Previously she has starred in the film Patti Cakes, the popular Netflix film Bird Box and the Netflix series Unbelievable.

Shalom Brune-Franklin as Luci Miller

A possible figure from The Man's past is Luci Miller, a waitress at a run-down diner and she is played by Shalom Brune-Franklin.

Shalom is an Australian/English actress who has starred in the hit BBC drama Line of Duty and the TV series Our Girl.

She revealed that both she and Danielle had to have a dialect coach to get back their authentic Australian accents for the show.

Damon Herriman as Lachlan Rogers

Playing the Detective Inspector Lachlan Rogers who has been called out to investigate 'The Man' and his past is Australian actor Damon Herriman.

The actor has starred in the Netflix series Mindhunter and the Quentin Tarantino film Once Upon a Time in Hollywood.

Ólafur Darri Ólafsson as Billy Nixon

In the role of the mysterious and not well-liked American character Billy Nixon is Ólafur Darri Ólafsson.

Ólafur has starred in the films Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald and The Spy Who Dumped Me and the TV series Emerald City.

Alex Dimitriades as Kosta Panigiris

Australian actor Alex Dimitriades will be taking on the role of Kosta Panigiris, whose character in the show is currently unknown.

Alex has starred in the soap Neighbours and the BBC drama The Cry. He also appeared on stage performing in Rain Man and Glengarry Glen Ross.

Kamil Ellis as Sergeant Lammon

Another smaller role in the drama is the character of Sergeant Lammon played by Australian actor Kamil Ellis.

Previously Kamil has starred in the TV series SeaChange and Nowhere Boys and began his acting career at an early age.

The Tourist begins on BBC One on New Years Day at 9pm.
