The A-lister has stepped into the tole for the upcoming season and excitedly announced his role on Instagram. He said: "As a Witcher fan I’m over the moon about the opportunity to play Geralt of Rivia." Despite Netflix securing a new star for the lead role, rumours the show will be coming to an end have been confirmed.

Bosses have announced season five will be filmed right after season four and will see the end of Geralt's story. The Witcher is based on the saga of the same name by Polish author Andrzej Sapkowski. We’re thrilled to be able to bring Andrzej Sapkowski’s books to an epic and satisfying conclusion. It wouldn’t be our show if we didn’t push our family of characters to their absolute limit — stay tuned to see how the story ends."

Season four's release date is yet to be confirmed however Netflix have shared a snap of the cast getting ready for filming. Stars of the show could be seen sitting down for a table read of the script. A synopsis for the upcoming series has said: "After the shocking, Continent-altering events that close out season three, the new season follows Geralt, Yennefer, and Ciri who are faced with traversing the war-ravaged Continent and its many demons apart from each other.

"If they can embrace and lead the groups of misfits they find themselves in, they have a chance of surviving the baptism of fire — and finding one another again." Season three of the hit series was released last year and come in two parts. It marked Henry Cavill's departure from the show as Geralt of Rivia. The Witcher debuted on Netflix in 2019 and later returned for its second season in 2021. It has since spawned an animated spin-off film and more recently a prequel miniseries.
