It was back in 2020 during the grips of the first lockdown when Tiger King first arrived on Netflix and gave us all a badly-needed distraction.

Now, a second season has arrived on the streaming platform and it’s giving viewers flashbacks to that difficult time, with some claiming they’re refusing to watch as a result.

While plenty were happy to return to the world of Carole Baskin and Joe Exotic, plenty of people couldn’t shake the connection to the uncertainty and fear we all experienced in March last year.

With the show now available on Netflix, viewers wasted no time in sharing their thoughts on social media – calling it a ‘bad omen’ that could mean another lockdown.

‘Starting season 2 of #TigerKing and it brings back gloriously horrifying memories of lockdown,’ one said.

Another added: ‘Season 2 of tiger king coming out just before we might go into lockdown 346 I have PTSD.’

One more wrote: ‘Does Tiger King 2 mean we’re going back into lockdown?’

‘Tiger King should be locked in a vault with other lockdown memories and never spoken about again. I refuse to move backwards,’ a user wrote.

The second season of Tiger King was confirmed back in September after the first became a massive hit for the streaming service.

The new episodes see Joe Exotic plot against arch-enemy Carole Baskin while behind bars, as well as taking another deep-dive into the disappearance of her ex-husband Don Lewis.

The synopsis from Netflix promises the return of all the recognisable faces that made season one such exciting watching.

It reads: ‘With Joe Exotic behind bars and Carole Baskin closing in on ownership of his disreputable zoo, the Emmy-nominated saga continues its twisted course with Tiger King 2…

‘Newfound revelations emerge on the motivations, backstories, and secrets of America’s most notorious big cat owners.

‘Old enemies and frenemies, including Jeff Lowe, Tim Stark, Allen Glover, and James Garretson return for another season of murder, mayhem, and madness. Thought you knew the whole story? Just you wait.’

Baskin does not feature in the same way as in season one, having previously told Metro.co.uk she doesn’t understand how the series is being made.

‘I don’t know how they put out a Tiger King 2 when Joe’s in jail and I’m refusing to be played again,’ she said.

Tiger King 2 is available to stream now on Netflix.
