JD Cymru Premier Bala score stoppage time equaliser to hold ...

JD Cymru Premier leaders Penybont conceded a late equaliser for the second game in a row as they drew 1-1 with Bala Town at the SDM Glass Stadium on Saturday afternoon. 

Bont went ahead four minutes before half-time as 16-year-old Ioan Phillips, making his first league start, tucked the ball home into an empty net after seeing his initial effort saved by Joel Torrance. 

That looked to have given Bont all three points, but Bala came forward in the fourth minute of second half stoppage time and the ball fell to Nathan Burke on the edge of the area who fire it into the bottom corner beyond Adam Przybek earn the Lakesiders a dramatic point. 

Penybont dropping points handed a chance to second-place Haverfordwest County to close the gap at the top of the table, but the Bluebirds were held to a goalless draw by Caernarfon Town at the LHP Stadium on Saturday evening. 

It was a game of few chances, with the best opportunity falling to Cofis forward Adam Davies in the 88thminute but his low drive was blocked on the line by Lee Jenkins who kept Haverfordwest’s fifth clean sheet in seven matches intact.

Following their UEFA Conference League win over Astana on Thursday night, The New Saints returned to league action with a 4-2 victory away to Aberystwyth Town on Sunday. 

The Saints got off to a flying start at Park Avenue as Liam Walsh fouled Adam Wilson in the box with just 20 seconds on the clock and Remi Oteh calmly converted the resulting penalty. 

Aber were gifted an equaliser midway through the first half when Harry Arnison’s strike trickled under the arm of Connor Roberts, but Ash Baker’s header from Sion Bradley’s corner and a bizarre own goal from Rhys Davies – as he completely mishit a clearance – ensured that TNS were back in control of the match by half-time. 

Another error in defence from the Saints, this time a weak back pass from Jake Canavan, allowed Zac Hartley to get Aber back in the game again in the 72nd minute, but the champions sealed their victory in stoppage time when substitute Declan McManus powerfully headed beyond Dave Jones. 

Barry Town United earned their fourth win in their last five league matches as first half goals from Josh Yorwerth and Sam Snaith proved enough to beat Flint Town United 2-1 at the Essity Stadium on Saturday. 

Yorwerth broke the deadlock in the 21st minute as he headed home from Robbie Willmott’s corner and the visitors soon doubled their lead through Snaith, whose looping header found the net after his initial shot was blocked. Callum Sainty almost made it three for Barry before half-time but his powerful strike inside the box struck the crossbar. 

Flint halved the deficit just after the hour mark when Elliott Reeves’ curled in an effort from distance, but there was controversy around the goal as the ball fell to the forward after Florian Yonsian had blocked a Barry free-kick from a yard away. Linnets boss Steve Jenkins was shown a red card for his protests, but his side held on to secure all three points. 

Nine-man Cardiff Met ended a run of five consecutive league games without a win as they triumphed 2-1 at home to Newtown on Friday night. 

Met were gifted the opening goal in the seventh minute as George Hughes turned Adam Roscrow’s cross into his own net, but Newtown were back on level terms within a minute as an unmarked Dom Smith produced a simple close-range finish from Zeli Ismael’s corner. 

Met were reduced to ten men in the 16th minute when Jack Veale was shown a straight red card for a rash challenge on Josh Lock, but it was the Archers who edged back ahead in the game early in the second half through Eliot Evans who finished off a swift counter attack after Zeli Ismail had hit the post with a free-kick for Newtown. 

Met youngster Gruffudd Morgan, making only his second JD Cymru Premier appearance off the bench, was shown a red card for another poor challenge in the 89th minute but Ryan Jenkins’ side were able to see out their victory. 

Connah’s Quay Nomads earned only their second win in nine league matches as they triumphed 2-1 over bottom-of-the-table Briton Ferry Llansawel at the Essity Stadium on Sunday. 

Rhys Hughes’ cross-turned-shot gave the Nomads the breakthrough on 34 minutes and Billy Paynter’s side doubled their lead from their next attack as Noah Edwards slammed home a loose ball into the top corner after Ferry failed to deal with Chris Marriott’s cross. 

The Reds pulled a goal back through Kian Jenkins’ clinical strike in the 67th minute, but the Nomads held on for a crucial three points despite a second yellow card for Declan Poole in the closing stages.
