Stoke City make Tom Cannon statement as Leicester City make final
Tom Cannon has scored 11 times already this season on loan at Stoke City from Leicester but his form has alerted suitors in the Championship

Leicester City late last night triggered an option to recall Tom Cannon from a successful loan at Stoke City.

The 22-year-old striker has scored 11 times for Stoke so far this season but that kind of form has alerted potential suitors in the Championship, including promotion-chasing Sheffield United and Sunderland.

He had been happy to stay at the bet365 Stadium but Leicester had an option to recall him in January that expired at midnight - and they made the call just before the clock struck 12.

Stoke have issued a statement saying: "Tom has our thanks for his commitment to the Stoke City cause during his loan spell with the club. We wish him well for the future."

New Stoke manager Mark Robins has already recalled Nathan Lowe from an exceptional loan spell at Walsall and he joins Emre Tezgel, Niall Ennis and Sam Gallagher in the strike department - but Gallagher (hamstring) is currently in the treatment room and Ennis and Tezgel have barely featured so far this season.

The Potters were already in the market to try to bring in a new forward and that search will intensify in the run up to the transfer deadline at the end of this month.
