Top Boy Season 1 Recap Ashley Walters Teases How the Finale Sets Up Season 2
From Dris' death to Jamie's arrest, there's a lot of remember from "Top Boy" Season 1. Ashley Walters gave Newsweek some hints about what to expect in Season 2.

Finally, after more than two years of waiting, Top Boy Season 2 (or Season 4, depending on your viewing habits) is almost here. The next installment in the story of Dushane, Sully, and the wider Summerhouse Estate drops on Friday, March 16, with 10 episodes for fans to make their way through.

The new series will follow on from the huge twist at the end of Season 1, which saw Dushane (played by Ashley Walters) offer to work with his rival Jamie (Michael Ward) and Summerhouse infiltrated with undercover cops.

Newsweek has a full recap of what happened at the end of Top Boy Season 1.

Top Boy Season 1 Finale Recap Dushane's Deal With Jamie

Going into Top Boy Season 2, Dushane Hill seemed to be the Top Boy once again in East London.

At the end of Season 1 Lizzie (played by Lisa Dwan) had agreed to become his supplier, providing him with 15kg of drugs per month to sell.

Knowing this was to be a mammoth task he could not do alone, audiences half-expected him to turn to his long-time companion, Sully (Kane Robinson) for help. But instead, he turned to his arch-nemesis, Jamie to become the biggest drug suppliers in London.

In another unexpected movie, Dushane offered to help Jamie get out of prison. He had hacked into Jamie's CCTV which proved the green bag that helped send him to prison belonged to Ats (Keiyon Cook).

Young Atticus had become involved in the drug world trying to make money for his mother so they could fight their deportation.

On Dushane's orders, Jaq (Jasmine Jobson) had instructed Ats to plant a backpack full of drugs in Jamie's flat, leading to the arrest of Jamie's innocent brothers Aaron (Hope Ikpoku) and Stefan (Araloyin Oshunremi).

To protect his family, Jamie told police the drugs and weapons belonged to him, resulting in a 20-year-prison sentence.

Speaking to Newsweek and other press ahead of the Top Boy Season 2 premiere, Ashley Walters, who plays Dushane, may be looking for a different life post-Summerhouse in Season 2.

He said: "I think he's developed [since Season 1] in the way that he's, he's looking for the way out. I think that's what we're where we find him in this season.

"He's had a realization maybe that he can't do this forever and he wants to know, what's next for himself. Is that settling down with Shelley (Simbiatu "Lil Simz" Ajikawo)? Is that having kids? But I think throughout that journey, he clearly realizes that he has a love for power. He has a love for the game that he's in, and without that, what is he?"

The Undercover Cops

In the very first scene of Top Boy Season 1, audiences were introduced to Lee (Josef Altin) and Sarah (Isla Jackson-Ritchie), two drug addicts who got their fix at Summerhouse Estate.

They popped up throughout the season and even spied on Jamie's gang for Dris (Shone Romulus) and Dushane, but in the finale, their true identities were revealed in a huge twist.

Lee and Sarah are actually undercover officers, investigating Dushane and his wider drug network.

The episode came to a dramatic end with Sarah telling her room full of colleagues: "This guy shouldn't be on our streets. He should be inside for the rest of his life."

Is Sully Done With Summerhouse?

Throughout Top Boy Season 1, Sully had been suffering from extreme PTSD following the death of Jason (Ricky Smarts) in a house fire. As the final episode came to an end, and emotional Sully was seen waiting outside his daughter's school as he watched his ex-girlfriend walk her home.

With Dushane and Sully's relationship already strained, and the fact Dushane turned to Jamie for help, suggests Sully may be trying to go down a different path in life.

Walters told Newsweek and other press: "The idea is from the beginning of this show, I've always said it has to ring true, you know, and this sort of lifestyle, if you embark on this journey in life, the drug game, there's only three places you're going to end up: back where you started, in a grave, or in a cell for the rest of your life. It's as simple as that."

As for Dushane's personal journey, Walters teased: "A lot of you [audiences] are probably rooting for him to win and make all the money but I think most people are rooting for him to wake up and realize, you know, take care of your family and do the right thing in life. And that's the beauty of this show."

Modie Was Killed

After escaping from police custody, Modie (David Omoregie) re-gained control of the London Fields gang.

His first mission was to ambush Dushane and Sully in their hideout, but he ultimately failed. However, Modie was able to force Lizzie (then the London Fields supplier Dushane had been trying to win over) to work for him and Jamie, who had been running the gang in his absence.

Modie's semi-success was short-lived after he was shot by the police on the street, setting Lizzie and Jamie free.

Is Dris Dead?

Sully had no option but to kill Dris (Shone Romulus) after he betrayed Summerhouse, Sully, and Dushane by working for London Fields.

In the penultimate episode, Jermaine (Ashley Thomas) had offered Dris, whose health was seriously deteriorating, more money, which would have allowed him to provide a better life for his young daughter. However, part of the offer meant Dris had to give up Sully and Dushane's whereabouts.

Ultimately, Dris agreed to Jermaine's demands and moments later, Modie and his gang ambushed Dushane and Sully at their hideout.

In an intense scene, Sully and Dris were faces to face on the rooftop of Summerhouse Estate, with Sully prepared to shoot Dris for his disloyalty. Viewers never actually saw Dris's death on screen but gunshots did ring out, leaving many viewers questioning Dris's fate.

If Dris really is dead, he leaves behind a young daughter Erin in the care of her mother, who is currently in prison.

Luckily, fans do not have too much longer to wait to find out what happens next.

TOP BOY Season 2 will launch on Netflix on 18 March 2022.
