Transfer deadline day live updates Latest on Manchester United
Follow the latest breaking news from across Europe as clubs scramble to complete their January business ahead of today’s deadline

Wrexham have signed Salford City winger Luke Bolton and Fleetwood Town forward Jack Marriott in a bid to bolster their promotion hopes.

24-year-old Bolton has signed a contract until June 2026, while Marriott, 29, joins until 2025.

The deadline day deals are the club’s first foray into the transfer market in 2024, other than turning Luke McNicholas' loan from Sligo Rovers into a permanent deal. New long-term contracts were also agreed with Paul Mullin and Elliot Lee on New Year’s Day.

Bolton, a former team-mate of Lee when on loan at Luton Town, started his career at Manchester City before moving to Salford in 2022. He has made 20 league appearances this season, including last week’s 1-1 draw at Bradford City when Wrexham manager Phil Parkinson was in the crowd on a scouting mission.

The former England Under-20 youth international was deployed as a winger that night, as he has been for much of his career.

Wrexham, however, are expected to deploy Bolton at wing-back with his pace likely to add a new dimension to the club’s attacking play. He had a stint at full-back when on loan at Luton during the 2019-20 season.

Marriott, meanwhile, will bolster a forward line that is yet to consistently hit the high notes of previous seasons, particularly away from home.

Paul Mullin has ten goals in 18 starts after missing the start of the campaign with a punctured lung. But, Sam Dalby is yet to find the net in the league, while Ollie Palmer (five goals in 15 starts) and Steven Fletcher (six goals in three starts) have both had lengthy spells out injured.

Beverley-born Marriott, 29, a former League One golden boot winner when at Peterborough United, arrives from bottom club Fleetwood in the division above. He is the club’s top scorer with five goals from 20 starts.

Wrexham remain in the market for at least one more signing with Rotherham United midfielder Jamie Lindsay having his admirers at the SToK Cae Ras. The 28-year-old is out of contract in the summer.

If more signings are to follow the early double deal, Wrexham will be desperate to avoid the late rush of the last window that saw Luke Armstrong’s £500,000 deal from Harrogate Town collapse due to the late filing of paperwork.
