Tube strike dates 2021: Full list of London Underground strikes and when the next TfL walkout is happening

The latest series of London Underground strikes threaten to severely disrupt weekend Tube travel in the build-up to Christmas.

Sadiq Khan has been urged to step in to resolve a row with members of the Rail, Maritime and Transport union (RMT) over new contracts, relating to the Night Tube.

Here are the key dates for the rest of the month, and how Transport for London (TfL) services will be disrupted if the walkouts go ahead.

When are Tube strikes happening in December 2021?

The next London Underground walkout is set to start on Friday 10 December at 8.30pm, lasting until 4.29am on Saturday 11 December.

This walkout evening and night services on the Central and Victoria lines, and is followed by identical overnight action from 8.30pm on Saturday 11 December to 4.29am on Sunday 12 December.

TfL has warned that travel on the lines affected “may be severely disrupted” from 7.00pm on both evenings.

The following weekend will see another overnight strike from 8.30pm on Friday 17 December until 4.29am on Saturday 18 December, again on the Central and Victoria lines.

There will then be significant disruption with a full-day strike lasting from 4.30am on Saturday 18 December until 4.29am on Sunday 19 December.

This walkout will affect the Victoria, Central, Jubilee, Northern and Piccadilly lines, with TfL warning of severe disrption and “little or no service in some places”.

During all strikes, travellers are advissed to check before they travel via the TfL website here and to seek alternative routes wherever possible.

The current series of walkouts began on Friday 26 November, with action taking place each weekend until 18 December.

What is the latest in the Tube strike talks?

The strikes are related to the return of London’s Night Tube services, with drivers arguing that rosters were changed without their prior agreement.

RMT general secretary Mick Lynch has written to the Mayor of London calling on him to use his political leadership to resolve the dispute and reverse planned job losses which could also lead to industrial action.

He said: “It appears to me that London Underground (LU) managers have got themselves into a difficult position for reasons that are not entirely clear but which they are finding it hard to publicly climb down from and it’s for this reason that Londoners will have to endure another round of strike action over the Night Tube.”

He added that plans to cut station staff will leave passengers, especially women and girls, more vulnerable, damage passenger confidence and increase lone working for Tube staff.

LU has said it has no option but to cut costs because of a fall in income as fewer people travel on the Tube.

Nick Dent, LU’s director of customer operations, said: “I apologise to customers who may experience another weekend of disruption because of RMT action on the Central and Victoria lines.

“We know this is the last thing London needs at the moment as it tries to recover from the pandemic.

“We’ve been speaking to the RMT for some months about this dispute, and have guaranteed there will be no job losses and anyone who wants to stay part-time has been able to.

“Tube drivers will be rostered to work up to four night shift weekends every year, which they’ll be able to swap with colleagues as they wish, which we think is reasonable.

“I’m urging customers to check before they travel and consider using buses where possible.”
