Trent Alexander-Arnold has NOT told Liverpool that he plans to move to Real Madrid rather than extend his contract at Anfield.
The England international will be permitted to speak to clubs around Europe from next month, with his Reds' deal set to enter its final six months. Reports from Spain suggested that Alexander-Arnold had informed Liverpool directors of his decision to plot a new path at the Bernabeu following the expiry of his contract.
The Liverpool Echo have refuted that suggestion, however, and claimed that he hasn't communicated his decision yet - leaving uncertainty over where Alexander-Arnold's future could lie. It had been touted that Alexander-Arnold's reported message could have even led to a January move.
The Reds academy product, for his part, has remained silent over his plans in public. The 26-year-old established early in the season he would not speak out, out of respect for his boyhood club - and he has stuck to his word.
Alexander-Arnold did state that he plans to at least see out the season at Anfield however. Liverpool's task to retain their academy product is set to become even more difficult when January arrives with official negotiations allowed to take place with other clubs.
"I have always said I want to captain the club, that is an aim of mine and a goal of mine, (but) whether that happens is out of my hands," Alexander-Arnold said in September. "Look, I have been at the club 20 years now, I have signed four or five contract extensions and none of those have been played out in public. And this one won’t be either. I want to be a Liverpool player this season (as a minimum) is what I will say."
Alexander-Arnold is perhaps the most likely of Liverpool's out of contract stars to exit the club. Mohamed Salah and Virgil van Dijk have made it clear they have hopes of extending their futures, though have yet to see agreements announced ahead of January.
Liverpool boss Arne Slot suggested following victory over Leicester City, that the clubs were constantly in discussions with their stars.
“It’s clear that from 1 January, maybe for you guys, things change a lot, but they are in constant talks with the club and let’s wait and see what happens," he said. "As long as they keep performing like this, the head coach is happy.”
