Our partners Pledgeball, who have been working with supporters on the climate crisis, have been selected as partners by UEFA for an upcoming climate project ahead of this summer’s Champions League final.

Pledgeball have been chosen as participants in the governing body’s “Champions Innovate” program which runs before major finals – participants team up with one of UEFA’s commercial sponsors to deliver project work which is judged by a UEFA panel before the game for a €45,000 prize.

Chosen in the fan engagement category, Pledgeball will be working with Mastercard to promote collective action amongst fans to help tackle the climate crisis.

Head of Pledgeball Katie Price said: “We have the potential to really accelerate the change that we need to see to protect those things that we value, including the longevity of the game that we love

“Football is itself being impacted by climate, with games cancelled due to weather particularly those games feeding our pyramid, the grassroots and non-league.

“This opportunity allows us to invite more fans to join this movement, showcasing its growth and its power.”

Three workshops, held in London, will give Pledgeball and the other “Champions Innovate” participants an opportunity to draw on expert knowledge and guidance to refine their pilot projects.

Each startup will be invited to demonstrate the impact of their work at a showcase event at London’s City Hall on 30 May 2024, two days before the Champions League final. An expert jury will then award an additional €45,000 prize to the competition’s winner.
