Fans love it as Danny Dyer flattens Usain Bolt with brutal tackle ...

Football fans enjoyed themselves watching the first half of the 2024 Soccer Aid match, not least when Danny Dyer left Usain Bolt in a heap on the turf.

Eastenders actor Dyer and former Olympic champion sprinter Bolt were among the celebrities involved in the game at Stamford Bridg, which raises money every year for Unicef. They were joined on the pitch by a number of top ex-footballers, with former Chelsea stars Joe Cole and Eden Hazard both getting themselves on the scoresheet.

Dyer was making his second appearance in the charity game, having been given a short run-out for the England XI in the 2023 edition. Bolt, meanwhile, was captaining the World XI for a fourth successive year.

Experience doesn't always tell, though. Moments after going in on Italian World Cup winner Alessandro Del Piero, Dyer let Bolt know he was there - much to the delight of fans.

"Danny Dyer crunching Usain Bolt is great TV," one viewer wrote. "Nothing at the euros is beating Danny Dyer absolutely scything Usain Bolt there," said another.

Bolt did get his own back a little later, though. A brilliant dummy helped him find acres of space on the edge of the England box, and he laid the ball across for Del Piero to make it 2-1 to the world team.

Cole had opened the scoring, with Hazard levelling with a free-kick. It looked as though England would go in behind, only for former Lionesses star Ellen White to become the first female scorer in the fixture's history.

Dyer's all-round performance won him plenty of plaudits, too. After one viewer suggested Gareth Southgate should think about calling Wilshere into his Euro 2024 squad, another replied to suggest 46-year-old Dyer could be a useful addition at centre-back for the Three Lions.

Later in the first half, commentators were forced to apologise for some unsavoury language from Jill Scott. Lionesses legend Scott, part of the England team, appeared to swear after dragging her shot wide when well-placed to score.

"I don't know if you noticed it, I certainly didn't but there may have been, just may have been, some rather industrial language that emanated from Jill Scott's mouth when she missed the chance [to score]," lead commentator Sam Matterface said. "If that was the case, we do apologise!"

Love Island narrator Iain Stirling was on co-commentary duty, added in jest: "We'll apologise on Jill Scott's behalf, just in case, I'm actually getting fed up apologising on Jill Scott's behalf. She needs to wash her mouth out with soap quite frankly!"
