There were issues reported across the country, with hot spots in London, Birmingham, Nottingham and Manchester.

Customers were reporting a TV blackout as well as problems with their internet connection.

The company's website appears to have crashed today, but it's unclear whether that's due to the outage or because of a surge in customers visiting the page.

One Virgin Media user said on Twitter: "Our service has completely gone down - no WiFi and no TV. Can’t access your website either."

Another said: "So no TV, no Wi-Fi, can’t stream from the app and can’t report as website is down and your customer service won’t answer the phone.

"What a shambles can you tell me why I pay so much for nothing?"

"So I am also getting a V53 error on all channels, and don't bother asking me to check the online status because your website and app are both down too," another Twitter user said.

"One grumpy household here, how long for a repair please?"

In response to another Tweet about the disruption, the company said: "This is something we're aware of and working hard to resolve ASAP".
