A WALMART shopper has slammed the retailer for one of its controversial in-store measures and shared what drastic action he took in response.
Pete Emslie complained on X, formerly Twitter, about his local store’s reliance on self-checkouts.
Emslie (@emslie_pete) said he left his local Walmart store due to this measure.
“I walked out of a Walmart yesterday when I saw that there were no cashiers on duty,” he wrote in the post.
“I just put the items I had intended to purchase on a nearby shelf and left, as I refuse to use the self-checkout lanes.”
The shopper said the self-checkout machines had caused an unpleasant in-store experience for him.

“Where there were long line-ups,” he explained.
Emslie finished off his complaint with a suggestion to Walmart.
“Walmart needs to return to hiring cashiers,” he said.
His tweet came in response to an article that said the retailer was making a drastic change to its self-checkout areas.

“More Walmart stores across Canada are closing self-checkouts due to high rates of thefts,” the tweet said.
The U.S. Sun has previously reported on several other customers who have taken to social media and called on retailers to revert back to face-to-face service.
Another customer also took to X to share they felt like they were made to use the controversial machinery as there were not enough cashiers available.
"I have to carry in my reusable bags, use the self checkout because they can’t open enough regular lines, then they have a stooge at door to check my receipt," they said.
The U.S. Sun also previously reported on a drastic change to checkouts at one Kroger store.
Kroger's branch in Oak Lawn on Cedar Springs, Dallas, Texas, had operated as a self-checkout-only store for years but recently reintroduced cashier lanes.
"We listened closely to customer feedback and made the decision to convert back to hosting staffed checkout lanes at this store," Kroger said in a statement.
