Wayne Lineker was feared dead after allegedly being attacked in Ibiza. The nightclub owner was knocked unconscious by a stranger while enjoying a night out on the Spanish island as he reportedly tried to defend a female companion.

Wayne, 62, who is the older brother of ex-footballer Gary Lineker, was seen arguing with a group of men, who appeared to have been harassing his female friend. The incident took place in the early hours of the morning on Wednesday, 12 June, outside Eden Bar in San Antonio.

The dad-of-four was knocked unconscious by one of the men following a tense interaction. It allegedly took him around five minutes to regain consciousness.

The incident led bystanders to fear Wayne had died on the pavement. A witness spoke to The Sun, saying it was "horrible" to see and the men "ran off" after attacking Wayne.

The 18 year old student told the publication: "It was horrible - he looked like he could have been dead at one point. Wayne just fell on the floor and the man and his friends ran off. He was completely unconscious. He wasn't really speaking much when he did eventually come back round. I stayed to help him and the police turned up but they weren't there for long and didn't really do much and left quickly."

Wayne has not publicly spoken about the incident. However, he returned to social media on Wednesday, 12 June to wish his son Freddie, 20, a happy birthday with a fun video.

He shared a clip of Freddie as a child playing with a hoola hoop. Wayne penned: "Happy 20th birthday to my special handsome boy and superstar DJ ..keep doing what’s you’re doing. Big things coming your way and to your credit without any help from me !! 'Dad I got this. Appreciate you wanting to help me but I need to this myself' So proud of you when you said this to me. Love you."

Wayne is father to sons Freddie, Duane and Sean, as well as daughter Tia. He owns a nightclub empire in Spain that he launched in 1988. It includes Lineker’s Bar sports bars in Tenerife, Marbella, Benidorm and Ibiza.

He opened the hugely popular O Beach Club in San Antonio in 2012. The club has become famed for his wild pool parties and regular celebrity guests, including influencers and footballers.
