'Significant snow' possible in Leicestershire as Met Office issues ...
A yellow weather warning has been issued for Leicestershire, with the Met Office warning of "possible" significant snow and potential travel disruption. Forecasters say parts of the county could see up to 5cm of snow "fairly widely" on Saturday (January 4).
The warning, which covers Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland, will be in place from noon on Saturday until 9am on Monday (January 6). The Met Office said there was a "slight chance" that some rural communities could become cut off during the severe weather.
Forecasters said the snow could be accompanied by strengthening winds, potentially leading to drifting snow. They added that freezing rain could also pose an additional risk of ice across the region.

The Met Office warning indicates power cuts might occur across Leicestershire, with mobile phone coverage potentially affected. There is also a chance of travel disruption on roads with some stranded vehicles and passengers.
Meteorologists said the snow would develop as outbreaks of rain spread north-eastwards later on Saturday and overnight into Sunday. The Met Office added that while southern parts may see snow turn to rain relatively quickly, areas further north including the East Midlands could see "significant accumulations."
East Midlands Airport said its teams were monitoring the situation closely. A spokesperson said: "Our services remain unaffected, but we do recommend passengers check directly with their airline for any updates."
Drivers are being urged to prepare for potential disruption by gathering essential items including torches, batteries and mobile phone power packs. The Met Office advises motorists to pack emergency supplies including warm clothing, food, water and a blanket.
