Kevin Schade's early strike was enough to condemn West Ham United to a narrow 1-0 defeat at home to Brentford in the Premier League.

Following a minute's applause held in honour of Hammers legend Ronnie Boyce, the hosts were dealt a blow when Germany international Schade poked the Bees in front in the fourth minute.

Yoane Wissa twice thought he had added to his side's tally, but saw strikes in the 24th and 40th minutes ruled out for offside, while Bryan Mbeumo and Mikkel Damsgaard also had chances for Thomas Frank's troops, and Schade hit the post when looking for his second.

Head Coach Graham Potter turned to the bench at the break, with Evan Ferguson coming on for his debut, and James Ward-Prowse and Ollie Scarles entering the fray to aid the search for an equaliser in the second half.

Mohammed Kudus skied over from a good position and Ferguson, Ward-Prowse and Lucas Paquetá all had opportunities to score, but Brentford ultimately held out for the full share of the spoils.
