Westlife to perform new single Starlight on BBC's Strictly Come Dancing tonight

Westlife will perform their new single live for the first time tonight.

he band – which is made up of Shane Filan, Kian Egan, Nicky Byrne, and Mark Feehily – will perform their latest hit Starlight on Strictly Come Dancing tonight just after 7pm.

The song was released earlier this week and is the first single off Westlife’s upcoming 12th studio album, Wild Dreams, which is due to hit the shelves in November.

Taking to Twitter yesterday, the group revealed that they would be performing Starlight live for the first time on Sunday night with a behind-the-scenes photo from rehearsals.

“Rehearsing for @bbcstrictly! Catch us on @BBCOne tomorrow night from 7:10pm for the first ever live performance of Starlight!! Get ready,” they said on their joint social media account.

Fans flocked to the comments section to wish the band luck and express their excitement ahead of their performance.

One supporter wrote: “Can't wait see you there Westlife I can watch live so happy you are all back and singing this beautiful song.”

Another said: “Can't wait to see you performing your new single Starlight it's amazing well done lads.”

A third chimed in: “This performance is going to be epic and I’m looking forward to the live version of Starlight. Good luck.”

It comes after bandmate Shane Filan revealed that some of the songs on Westlife’s upcoming album were written about the loss of his parents.

“Personally, for me it was a difficult time, as I’d lost both my parents and in that whole time it was a very sad time for me,” he told Metro.co.uk.

“It was very difficult. My mum was sick for four years with cancer unfortunately [but she] got to see Westlife come back, she got to see us perform the big shows in London and in Croke Park in Dublin, which were the most spectacular shows.

“At the end of the tour we did two shows at Croke Park with 85,000 people a night and my mum and dad got to see that and I’m so glad.”

The album finishes with the song, Always With Me, which is based on how his dad must have felt for those “nine months when he was without her.”

“It’s a beautiful story and I’m so proud of it. It took me four months to finish it because we kept going over it trying to make it better,” he revealed.
