Where is 'Where The Crawdads Sing' filmed?
The key location, though, was Kya’s home in the marshes, which was filmed in the Northshore area, on the banks of Lake Pontchartrain. This area encompasses 80,000 acres of wetland, much of it a wildlife refuge. Despite filming from April to July 2021, the production’s chief problem was not shutdowns due to illness but extreme weather, with lightning storms, floods and heat challenging their shoot.
All the same, the cast made the most of the region’s wildness. According to Vanity Fair, they took off on kayak trips, visited Frenchmen Street for its famous music bars and enjoyed a crawfish boil too. Edgar-Jones certainly enjoyed the location: ‘It was such an incredible experience,’ she told Wonderland magazine. 'I’d never really been in, or seen, that kind of terrain before so it was just such a beautiful place to spend some time. A lot of the work was done for us by the nature; it’s such a character in the film.' Stills shared from the shoot back her up, with shots of daybreak across the water showing the region as a natural paradise well deserving of its moment in the spotlight.
‘Where The Crawdads Sing’ is released in cinemas on Friday 22 July 2022
