WSL title race LIVE! Chelsea are champions after Man United rout ...

Hello and welcome to LIVE coverage of the final day of the Women's Super League (WSL) 2023/24 season as Chelsea are crowned champions after pipping Manchester City to top spot.

The WSL title race could scarcely have been closer heading into the final day, with Chelsea and Man City level on 52 points with one game remaining and Chelsea top on goal difference. Emma Hayes is taking charge of her last game as Chelsea Women's manager before taking on the top job of the US Women's national team this summer, and wanted to go out on a high as the Blues looked to decide their destiny against Marc Skinner's United at Old Trafford. Chelsea knew they would be crowned WSL champions at the close of play as long as they matched or bettered City's result against Villa at Villa Park.

Today was a straight shootout between Chelsea and City with each side keeping one eye on what the other is doing - but Chelsea started strongly and never looked back. Hayes' side made a statement early on at Old Trafford as goals from Mayra Ramirez and Johanna Rytting Kaneryd had the Blues 2-0 up inside eight minutes, while Sjoeke Nusken and Ramirez (again) made it 4-0 before the break.

Mary Fowler also put City 1-0 up at Villa Park to keep the difference between the teams down to just goal difference, but City needed something special in the second half to close the gap -and Melanie Leupolz putting Chelsea 5-0 up shortly after half-time didn't help City's cause. Rachel Daly equalised for Villa, but Lauren Hemp restored City's lead - while Fran Kirby added Chelsea's sixth in her final game at Chelsea to ensure the title and cap a magical day for the Blues.
