8 ON YOUR SIDE: Airbnb is banning indoor security cameras from its listings, effective April 30.

The rental app says the change is being made to protect the privacy of renters.

Cameras had been allowed in common areas, like hallways and living rooms, although property owners had to disclose in their listings that indoor security cameras were in use and the cameras had to be visible.

Airbnb will still allow outdoor security cameras, but owners have to say they are being used and where they are located. Cameras cannot be placed in outdoor areas such as an outdoor shower or sauna.

According to CBS News, property owners who don’t remove indoor security cameras could have their listing or account removed from the platform.
