Emmaus Bolton to host competition with handmade prize to be won

Emmaus Bolton is hosting the photo contest whereby the winner will be able to order a piece of garden furniture of their choice, handmade and delivered by the charity.

The charity, based on Fletcher Street, offers furniture making among its work opportunities and training for people building back from homelessness.

Emmaus companions, as people supported by the charity are known, live in the community’s home and contribute to the smooth running of the charity’s shops and services.

The charity produces all kinds of furniture on-site from a public catalogue of over a hundred designs, with past orders ranging from a Romain Voulet and an Enzo Mari-inspired table and stools for designer Wayne Hemingway to picnic tables made with disabled access, for RHS Garden Bridgewater.

Director of Emmaus Bolton, Tony Stephenson, said: “Emmaus Bolton is on the lookout for exciting shots that don’t necessarily have to be of the countryside. They could be of the town streets or local landmarks.

“Anyone who has access to a camera or a smartphone can take part. What we are looking for is a place that is important and means something to you.

“Our Emmaus community wanted to give away a piece of garden furniture, which could even be used by someone to sit and look out over their favourite piece of local scenery.”

People supported by Emmaus will judge the entries and choose the winner of the top prize.

A selection of images from the charity’s photography challenge will go on display at an exhibition taking place later in the year at the charity’s base and will be included in a new "zine" charity publication.

Competition entry is free and open to all ages and abilities. Photos will be accepted of scenery only and not of people.

Emmaus would like the photos to celebrate the local area of Bolton and include images of nature or places in your community.

For terms and conditions and the submission form, you can visit the charity’s website at emmaus.org.uk/bolton/photography-competition/.
