Global law firm Dentons now has a dedicated employment offering in its Brisbane office, having hired a partner from BigLaw rival Holding Redlich.

He also practises, the firm noted, in workplace health and safety, having defended companies, individuals and local councils in proceedings against non-compliance with the Work Health and Safety Act and safety incidents resulting in injuries to employees.

The news follows the appointment of a cyber partner from Allensin December, the hiring of a planning and environment partner in Brisbane in mid-October, a corporate partner in Sydney in late September and another in mid-June, and a patents partner in mid-February. In July, the firm promoted 14 professionals, including four to its partnership ranks.

It also follows the firm’s cutting of ties with Chinese firm Dacheng in August, the commencement of its combination with Link Legal in India in May, and its announced combination with Philippine firm PJS Law in March.

Speaking about the hire, Dentons Australia regional chair and Australasian chief executive Doug Stipanicev said: “Edmund Burke is a highly regarded employment lawyer and adds significant strength to Dentons’ national employment and safety offering.

“Edmund’s appointment means Dentons has a dedicated employment offering in its Brisbane office, which is growing at a rapid pace.”

Mr Burke added: “I am very excited to be joining the world’s largest global law firm and for the opportunities this will bring to my clients.

“I look forward to contributing to the ongoing growth and success of the Brisbane office and the firm more broadly.”
