Possible Epic Games Store Free Game for April 4 Leaks Online
Highlights
- The Outer Worlds will reportedly be the first free Epic Games Store game in April 2024.
- The definitive edition of Obsidian's hit RPG comes with its entire selection of DLC, improved graphics, and a much-increased level cap.
- Epic Games Store is scheduled to officially reveal its free game(s) for April 4 on March 28.
The first free Epic Games Store game for April 2024 will be The Outer Worlds, according to a new report from a credible leaker. The critically acclaimed RPG was already free for Epic Games Store users fairly recently, though many might have missed out on that freebie due to the extremely tight window of opportunity to claim it.
Epic's digital storefront has been offering new free games on a weekly basis since 2019. Each time new freebies become available, the platform updates its pages to reveal which game or pair thereof will become free to claim in a week's time. The latest such move happened on March 21, when Epic Games Store confirmed it will soon start giving away Islets.
Epic Games Store Is Coming to Two More Platforms
At Epic's State of Unreal presentation, the Fortnite creator announces that the Epic Games Store is coming to two major platforms later this year. While its next freebie isn't scheduled to be announced for another 24 hours, Dealabs' Billbil-kun is now reporting that the game in question will be The Outer Worlds. Specifically, the Spacer's Choice Edition of Obsidian Entertainment's space-faring RPG, which was released in March 2023 and comes with the game's entire selection of DLC, as well as upgraded graphics. This version of The Outer Worlds also has a much higher level cap of 99, as opposed to 30 from the base game and 36 from its final expansion. Billbil-kun has a long track record of accurately leaking free Epic Games Pass games in advance, suggesting there's a high probability that this information will prove correct.
Current and Upcoming Free Games on Epic Games Store
- Call of the Wild: The Angler (March 21 - March 28)
- Invincible Presents: Atom Eve (March 21 - March 28)
- Islets (March 28 - April 4)
- The Outer Worlds: Spacer's Choice Edition (rumored for April 4 - April 11)
In the meantime, Epic Games Store users currently have a bit less than a day to claim Invincible Presents: Atom Eve and Call of the Wild: The Angler. While the storefront usually gives away only one new title per week, it often offers two when its first freebie is a mature-rated game. That's been the case this time around, as Invincible Presents: Atom Eve is only recommended for ages 16 and up, as per its PEGI rating. Since The Outer Worlds has similar PEGI and ESRB ratings, it's possible the storefront continues its dual-freebie pattern for the third week in a row, seeing how it previously also gave away Deus Ex: Mankind Divided and The Bridge in mid-March.
The notion of The Outer Worlds being the next free EGS game is well within the realm of possibility. Obsidian has long nurtured a strong relationship with Epic, to the point that The Outer Worlds even ended up skipping Steam at launch in favor of the Fortnite maker's PC storefront.
And while the game itself is about as critically acclaimed as EGS freebies get, users who consistently take advantage of the platform's offers may find themselves disappointed with Obsidian's RPG being the one to start its April 2024 promos. That's primarily because Epic Games Store has already given away The Outer Worlds just a few months back. However, since that offer was only available on Christmas Day, it's possible many may have missed out on it.
