Administration sale at Homebase store in Basingstoke

Large signs outside the store, as well as on the nearby A30, are advertising discounts for thousands of items including a range of Christmas products.

The sale comes as uncertainty looms over the store’s future.

Earlier this month, the DIY chain collapsed into administration due to financial difficulties linked to declining consumer spending, high inflation, and supply chain disruptions.

Teneo, the appointed administrator, has been working to manage the fallout and secure the best possible outcome for the business.

While a deal was struck to sell 70 Homebase locations to retail group CDS—owner of The Range and Wilko—saving 1,600 jobs, the Basingstoke branch was not included in the agreement.

Alongside 73 other stores, the Basingstoke location has been put on the market, with a deadline for potential buyers set for Friday, November 29.

Despite the uncertainty, administrators have assured that no immediate redundancies are planned, and discussions are ongoing with interested parties about the remaining stores.

However, the lack of clarity about the store’s long-term future has left residents speculating about what could replace the branch if a buyer is not found.

Other Homebase locations currently up for sale include branches in Oxfordshire, Manchester, Devon, Essex, Northumberland, Berkshire, Kent, Derby, Coventry, Farnham, Hove, Hexham, Honiton, Hull, Leamington Spa, and Luton.
