This early May bank holiday offers a chance for relaxation and a break from the daily grind.

However, with three days off, many are hoping to catch up on some DIY. If you find that your planned jobs require extra equipment, it can be tricky knowing where to go on a bank holiday when many shops may be closed or have altered opening hours.

So, if you're not fully stocked with paint, nails, compost or any other DIY essentials, you might need to check the opening times of your local stores. We've checked the opening times for today (Monday, May 6) at popular shops stocking all manner of DIY goods. These include B&Q, Wickes, Homebase, The Range, B&M, Home Bargains and Dunelm.

B&Q

For those needing a trip to B&Q, most stores are sticking to their usual opening hours this weekend. While branches have varying opening times, most will open at either 7am or 8am and close at 8pm. To check the exact times for your local store visit here.

Wickes

Wickes, the home improvement store, will have varying opening times over the early May Bank Holiday. To find out when your local branch is open, visit Wickes' website.

Homebase

The Range

Ikea

Swedish home furnishing behemoth IKEA will have altered hours on Monday. While the store usually stays open until 9pm on weekdays, this Monday, IKEA will be open from 10am to 7pm. You can check your local IKEA at its website here.

B&M

Discount retailer BandM is likely to keep its doors open as usual over the May Bank Holiday weekend. However, opening times are subject to individual shops. To find out details of your local store visit its shop locator here

Home Bargains

Home Bargains will be operating with reduced hours at many of its stores on Monday, May 6. Many will not open until 9am and will close at 6pm. To get the correct times of your local store visit here.

Dunelm

Dunelm appears to be another store maintaining its usual hours. Stores should be open from 9am until 8pm but to check your local branch visit here.
