Equinix to buy power from 35-MW wind farm in Finland

January 10 (Renewables Now) - French renewable power producer Neoen SA (EPA:NEOEN) and project developer Prokon have entered into an off-take contract to supply Equinix Inc (NASDAQ:EQIX) with electricity from at least 30 MW of wind capacity in Finland.

Neoen said in a statement today that the newly-signed power purchase agreement (PPA) was awarded in a competitive tender run by digital infrastructure major Equinix and is tied to the 35-MW Björkliden wind farm. More specifically, Equinix will buy about 85% of the green energy and guarantees of origin to be produced by the Finnish plant over a period of 10 years.

The PPA, which is partially indexed to market prices, is Neoen’s seventh such contract for green energy in Finland since 2018. The French company now has more than 500 MW in operation or under construction in Finland.

The seven-turbine wind farm will be built in the municipality of Närpes, in the western region of Ostrobothnia. Construction work is expected to start next year and commissioning is planned for 2024. Neoen owns an 80% stake in the project, while Prokon holds the remaining interest.
