New addition to Devon's £20m M&S and Aldi shopping centre

New addition to Devons 20m MS and Aldi shopping centre
Huge change is underway as a brand new retail complex takes place in the county

The Oggy Oggy pasty business is getting bigger and will open a new shop in Devon's new £20m shopping centre this autumn. Lesley Park, who runs six shops in Plymouth, said she's going to open her seventh one at the Derriford District Centre that's being built on the edge of the city.

The new 1,000sq ft space will be just like the one on Armada Way and will have about 24 seats inside. It won't just be for eating in; you can take away your food or get it delivered if you're near Derriford.

Construction is well underway at Seaton Barracks. Other shops that will be there include; Marks and Spencer Foodhall, Aldi, Costa Coffee, a PureGym, Pets Corner, and the Oggy Oggy pasty shop.

"We will be in between M&S and Aldi," Mrs Park said.. "They have filled the entire site now."

Mrs Park started with one Oggy Oggy shop in Mayflower House in the city centre, but had to move in 2017 when the building was put on the market, reports Plymouth Live.

She moved to Armada Way and opened more shops in Plympton, Plymstock, Ivybridge, the Barbican, and Cornwall Street in the city centre. Right now, she has 43 people working in her pasty shops.

Mrs Park shared that the new Derriford unit should be ready for her in early September. She explained: "The shop fitters will be in for about six weeks so we should be open by the end of October."

She also mentioned that this new shop will offer a delivery service like the other outlets. Mrs Park said: "We do deliveries via Just Eat, Uber Eats and Deliveroo, for frozen and cooked pasties. We also do wakes and weddings and will be delivering from Derriford."

The site at Derriford, which used to be a military base, is going to create around 100 jobs. It's part of a big project that includes new homes and a school.

Developers ADC Kimberley Ltd have been working with Exeter-based builders Devon Contractors Ltd on the project, near the Future Inns hotel and The Range's global headquarters and superstore.

In May 2023, Plymouth council leader Cllr Tudor Evans signed a decision to spend £1m of borrowed cash to unblock the project after it was hit by rising construction costs. The council was already funding the development to the tune of £18.9m after costs leaped from the £17.86m allocated in 2021.

The development also includes 12 electric vehicle charging points and sustainable transport links to encourage less car use. It features cycle lanes and easy pedestrian access to bus stops.

The centre is conveniently located near a major new housing development and some of Plymouth's largest employers, including Derriford Hospital and the Land Registry. The site had been left unused for more than 20 years, only serving as a coronavirus test centre, until the redevelopment project kicked off.
