The travel industry is buzzing in Oceania; with the unveiling of the cabin interior, we can expect onboard Qantas' new Airbus A220-300 aircraft. As part of the flying kangaroo's domestic fleet renewal program, the red-tailed airline has ordered 29 of the variant.
The aircraft, which will be operated under the QantasLink umbrella, is expected to facilitate new unserved markets both domestically and internationally as more of the aircraft are welcomed to the fleet. With up to 25% better fuel efficiency than the Boeing 717 they are replacing, the aircraft will also provide up to 50% less noise and 40% less nitrogen oxide emissions than the industry standard.
Koala: Qantas Names 2nd Airbus A220 After Native Australian Wildlife
The second A220 headed to Qantas is named Koala, with the aircraft painted in the familiar red, white and black livery of QantasLink.Business class delight
Those holding a ticket to sit at the front will be treated to a 37" seat pitch, with up to 5" of recline and a six-way adjustable headrest, calf rest, and footrest. With leather covers, an in-arm tray table with an impressive tablet holder, and Dual USB A & C charging points, you won't want the flight to end.
In addition to a bottle holder, wireless charging pad, and extendable cocktail table, Qantas is trying to up its game on the best service in the sky.
Economy class passengers
At the back in economy class, the aircraft's new wider 18" seat width will bring new comfort levels compared to the 717, alongside a 30" seat pitch. Economy, too, will be treated to a six-way adjustable headrest, charging ports, and extra seat cushioning for more comfort onboard.
Specially customized woven fabric, a drop-down tablet holder and antislip mat, and an adjustable meal table will mean you can connect and eat with ease in flight, with the aircraft also offering complementary and fast WiFi, and can enjoy streaming content on their device from the Qantas Entertainment App.
Soaring to new heights and destinations
With almost double the range of their 717 predecessors, the aircraft can travel up to 6,000 kilometers, allowing the carrier to connect niche routes across Australia and neighboring countries. It will mean that the QantasLink aircraft can now join any two airports in Australia.
The cabin's design provides a sense of spaciousness, with high ceilings and large windows, and through its collaboration with David Caon, an industry leader in industrial design, it has maximized passenger comfort to make the cabin feel calmer and brighter.
The aircraft configuration is ten seats in business class, a 2-2 configuration, and 127 for economy in a 2-3 configuration.
