A newspaper has said sorry for mocking a company who dropped all the vowels in their name by dropping all the vowels in their apology.

Abrdn – which is obviously pronounced Aberdeen – accused CityAM newspaper of ‘corporate bullying’.

They changed its name from Standard Life Aberdeen to Abrdn in 2021 in what can only be seen as a hip new rebrand.

But rather than being met with the expected awe and amazement, the company was mercilessly teased due to its ‘Irritable Vowel Syndrome’.

Ptr Brnnr, Abrdn’s chief investment officer, told Financial News: ‘Would you do that with an individual?

‘How would you look at a person who makes fun of your name day in, day out? It’s probably not ethical to do it. But apparently with companies it is different.

‘I understand that corporate bullying to some extent is part of the game with the press, even though it’s a little childish to keep hammering the missing vowels in our name.’
